Breather

Nine to five jobs have a beginning and an end. You start at nine and you end at five. When you do graphic design or work from your home in general the perameters tend to get a little blurry. There is a constant flow of work that needs to be accomplished and new deadlines. And when you aren't working its like a cloud that follows you reminding you that you have things to get done. Hours turn to days, days to weeks, weeks to months, and months to years and you start to feel your life is one big deadline. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining at all, I am blessed to have work. And nine to five jobs definitely have their drawbacks. Though it is necessary to recognize the nature of your work so that you can find balance. Today I am actively choosing to have a Sabbath. I realize that I am creating by making this blog post. But I am making this post with no urgency of a deadline and I am creating for the joy of creating not based on neccessity. I worked diligently this ...

Year of the Snake

Happy Lunar New Year to those of you who follow that calendar. This past weekend I celebrated Chinese New Year with 100+ of my closest international friends. Ping pong tournament, karaoke, mahjong, games and authentic Chinese food to boot. Mmmm... so so good. The flyer I made for the event. It was like a little bit of home. Every year since I was 11 years old my family would always celebrate Chinese New Year. With the most elaborate and beautiful dragon dances, drums, lion dancers, red envelopes and well-wishes (some years there would be fan dances and calligraphy too). In the past I would wear a qipao but this year I wore a wonderful black silk jacket with a peacock embroidered on it, thanks to my momma who mailed it to me. I've had the jacket for several years now, but I have forgotten to bring it to LA with me every time I visit. This is my qipao I wore in 2009. I'm usually the only o...

Color Run

As I previously mentioned, I ran a 5K the other day. I ran the whole time without stopping, which is an accomplishment for me. And yes, all pictures taken during the race were taken while I was running haha. So don't judge my photo compositions too much. What is a Color Run? Well, since you asked... basically you run a normal 5K, and along the way there are color stations you run through where they cover you with color. If you have ever seen a or been a part of Holi , the holiday that celebrates color in India, you will have a good idea of type of color they use. It's this fine powder colored in bright brilliant colors.  There are 5K Color Run races all over the US and they choose different local charities to support. The charity this last weekend was a rehabilitation center for those who are recovering from physical trauma. Following the race there was a little dance party and color toss.

Call me an idealist but every year I try and set resolutions for myself. Attainable goals, nothing too crazy and usually unquantifiable (so maybe not exactly attainable if I can't quantify it). Starting this year off I set some goals for myself... (in no particular order) 1. Read Dave Ramsey book, and work towards being more financially stable 2. Eat healthier and exercise more 3. Invest more in all my relationships 4. Learn Chinese and Creole 5. Memorize more of the Bible and study it more, grow closer to G-d 6. Read more books than last year (always a goal of mine, but the last couple years I have kind of failed) A month has passed so let's see how I'm doing... 1. Haven't gotten any further in my Dave Ramsey book but I have started a Mint account and still plan on reading the book. 2. I have been eating marginally better and with smaller portions. I have also integrated running into my weekly routine. 3. I think I have gotten better at some of my relation...
