Haiti Bound or Bust

Image
I know I know you are probably diasppointed because this isn't another glorious guest post. Alas you are stuck with me for now. But let's give it up for Jason! I love how he tied it into the human condition at its purest form. It got me all thinking about my dreams and what they mean for me as a person. Such vivid imagery. And really relatable. Good stuff! I contemplated never writing on here again because yet again, I cannot compete with such genius. Though I leave for Haiti today and I thought I would give you a quick update and a say farewell for a while. I am packed and ready to go, I just need to shower and throw an extra set of clothes in my carry-on! Woot woot! This trip in particular really snuck up on me. I think its because I've been going full-steam ahead since before school ended. I've had friends and family visit, made all the promotional items for next year, and worked on an array of different projects (as I previously mentioned). Just this la...

Guest Post: The Dream

I wanted to write a little intro to this story and explain why it is the way it is—but first, and intro to the intro: When Rachelle asked me to write as a guest blogger for her blog, I had absolutely no idea what to write about—trust me, my life is not as interesting as Rachelle’s, nor am I as charismatic as she is, but at some point she suggested that I could write a short story, something that I have done before and that I enjoy doing. So short story it was…Now, short stories are always weird, but I think this one is a little more bizarre, and that’s because it is based off a recurring dream I had a few years ago. The bizarreness is not so much the content in it, but the form itself. There are a lot of shifts and abrupt transitions like real dreams. The idea of writing a story based on a dream is not that original—I think Stephanie Meyers said she based her books off a dream she had, and G-d forbid this is anything like  Twilight —but the reason...

Slammed

I leave for Haiti in a week. I didn't leave my house yesterday (That's a lie, I forced myself to take a break and walked to a coffee place down the street, grabbed a drink and came back. Just to see the sun and break up the monotony). I didn't leave my house because I have so much to get done before I head to my home away from home away from home. Yesterday, I edited 60+ wedding photos, worked on next year's promo items and set them in templates to show what the products will look like, I worked on signage for Freebirds , made a letterhead for a feedOne newsletter, made an invite for The Farrums' birthday extravaganza, sent out invoices, etc. Today I worked on more 2014 Chi Alpha promo items, ordered the printing of said newsletters, made signage comps for a hospital playground that will be built this next year, worked on a brochure for my friend, scheduled a graduation photo shoot for this week and made connections with a lady who wants me to make her wedding in...

Supermens

Image
I would be completely remiss if I did not mention the most important men in my life, on a day such as today. They have been the most fun, honorable, trusting, goofy, strong, cute, wise, loving, supportive, etc. men that I know. And that list is far from exhaustive. I could go on for forever, but I don't want you to be more jealous than you already are. Also please note, that I don't have photos for every single gpa and uncle featured here, but know that I am grateful for them all. To all the lovely mens in my life, Thank you. Thank you for your example and for raising the bar. Happy Father's Day

Daiso Japan

Image
If you live anywhere near LA (or Japan or Thailand evidently) you must make your way to Daiso Japan...it will change your life. And if you don't live near any of the afore mentioned locations, I suggest you make a pilgrimage there. E'rything is $1.50 (unless indicated otherwise, but there are very few items that aren't $1.50)  Its like an adorable and slightly more expensive 99 cent store. They have binto boxes, office supplies, cooking supplies, etc. Also if you like anything kawaii, this is your place. Here are the items I bought the other day. If I could move into the store I would. If their food selection were larger I would actually consider it and then I would be a hermit and never leave. I've made coffee with my new pour-over and it is so fantastic. I've considered buying the same item from different places but always opted out because of the price. Also the push-pin colors are perf for my house. I foresee the little bowl being my Oreo-bowl... you kn...

Very Eventful Part 3

SATURDAY Around midnight my momma, little brother, little sister and my mom's lovely friend, Margo arrived at my door! I didn't get any pictures of their arrival but it was wonderful! They brought me a new car with them, yay! It was a packed night that night...Lisa, my momma, Caleb, Hannah, Margo and I all under the same roof. The next morning we drove to the beach and it was so beautiful and such amazing waves that we just ran straight out into the freezing ocean and jumped the waves. I took everyone home and I took Lisa to the airport and we said our goodbyes.  SUNDAY Following church we jotted down to Santa Monica Pier. I don't know if I have told you this before or not, but whenever I have an opportunity to take a pictures in a photobooth, I have to take it. I love it, I have quite the collection of them. I will have to share them with you sometime. So naturally when we saw the ...

And the shenanigans continue! A brief rundown of my staycation... MONDAY Started the week off right and introduced Lisa to the beaches of LA. We saw about 15 dolphins out in the open and wild. She then treated me to dinner and we tried Father's Office, which was a fantastic idea. My burger had Maytag Blue, arugula, and caramelized onions and the shoestring fries were served with a superb aioli. I will definitely need to make sure I come back again. TUESDAY Tourist for the day to the max! We bought StarMaps which has the addresses of hundreds of celebs. I saw the driveways of CeeLo Green, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, etc. etc. Followed it all up with Sprinkles cupcakes. WEDNESDAY After being here for three years, I finally made my way down to downtown Hollywood. I saw the hand prints, the stars and the casting couch. Too too fun. Also I am very proud of myself, mastering the bus system and all. I feel like a real-live adult, which doesn't happen to ofte...

Very Eventful Part 1

I have had quite an action-packed weekend... THURSDAY I had the honor and privilege of taking Kelsey's graduation pictures. Followed that with our last Bible Study group that night and had boba as our last hurrah.  FRIDAY The Farrums came over and did my hair before she had to run off to work. Grabbed lunch and then I proceeded to get ready for our Final Banquet. I unintentionally had a 'Joan' inspired outfit and was therefore called Joan for the rest of the night. Following the Banquet we had our after party at a skating rink. I only fell five times haha. Each time was pretty hard and mainly because I was trying to be silly or go too fast. One of the times I fell I actually re-tweaked a nerve in my shoulder area and haven't been able to sleep a full night since. :/ My neck hurts so bad I can hardly turn my head.  The Farrums took this of me before she left, I think its the only head-to-toe picture I got of my outfit.  ...
