St. Rice Paddy's Day

Image
This past St. Patrick's Day was like none other that I have experienced. Growing up, St. Patrick's Day was always a big thing at my house, it went beyond just wearing green and possibly eating Lucky Charms. If you went to bed the night before without wearing something green you would be woken up by being pinched, and no, yelling that you have green eyes and were therefore exempt would get you anywhere. Our food would be green and Irish themed, we would dress up and go to the St. Patrick's day parade in downtown Kansas City and would have a real Irish family dinner. Some of this is due to my Irish heritage and some of it has to do with being from KC (we may not be Chicago or Boston, but KC has quite a rich Irish history). Though I live in California now, and while my family was back home eating colcannon, corned beef and cabbage, soda bread and green cake and sherbert, I was enjoying something quite different. My dear Chinese teacher, Eric invited me and several of my frie...

Call me an idealist but every year I try and set resolutions for myself. Attainable goals, nothing too crazy and usually unquantifiable (so maybe not exactly attainable if I can't quantify it). Starting this year off I set some goals for myself... (in no particular order) 1. Read Dave Ramsey book, and work towards being more financially stable 2. Eat healthier and exercise more 3. Invest more in all my relationships 4. Learn Chinese and Creole 5. Memorize more of the Bible and study it more, grow closer to G-d 6. Read more books than last year (always a goal of mine, but the last couple years I have kind of failed) A month has passed so let's see how I'm doing... 1. Haven't gotten any further in my Dave Ramsey book but I have started a Mint account and still plan on reading the book. 2. I have been eating marginally better and with smaller portions. I have also integrated running into my weekly routine. 3. I think I have gotten better at some of my relation...

Autumn Moon Fest

Today on the way to church I found that the main street I have to cross in order to get to church was completely blocked off because of a race. I thought it was just a bike race so we kept driving west towards the beach to go around the race, it turns out it was a triathlon and they were literally coming from the ocean. The race started in the ocean and went all the way to downtown LA from 7am-11am. The only other option was taking the 405 during Carmaggedon. Needless to say I didn't make it to church. Though I did make it to my friends' Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration. Shego and Margaret spent hours preparing this glorious meal! It was so so wonderful, and you should be jealous. n__n We had: baby bamboo, seaweed, shrimp, dehydrated baby shrimp, fried tofu, dehydrated potatoes, cucumbers in vinegar, fried rice, poridge, and moon cakes. As I was setting the timer, I accidentally took a picture. While flipping through the pictures on my camera it looked like I ...
