Mwen Sonje Ou Anpil Encore

Image
It's safe to say that I have allowed too much time to pass since my last blog post and for that I apologize. I have spent the last 2 weeks in Haiti, flew to LA and less than 24 hours later flew to Kansas. Needless to say I don't care to see another airplane for quite some time! As per usual, I have downloaded my Haiti photos and am attaching some of my favorites here. Amonese taking a break from cooking in the Haitian kitchen. After praying for Tahl, I asked her if I could take her picture, she nodded and then lowered her face and placed her hand on her chest. Such a tender moment. Gibson standing outside of his house when we came to bring his family beans and rice. Momma holding baby while watching a basketball game. (I have a couple other views of this picture and had troubles deciding which to post here, so you may be seeing those later). This baby is the snuggliest, most mild tempered baby I have ever had the pleasure of holding. Plus she was mean ...

Mwen Sonje Ou Anpil (I Miss You A Lot, in Haitian Creole)

Image
I really do miss you. I have had so much to tell you about but then I let too much time go and then I have been backed up on things to share and don't know where to start. Things like my turtles and their cute pictures, going to the MadMen event at the Kodak theater, going to Las Vegas twice , finding a junk table on the side of the road and refinishing it for my kitchen, being in my sister's wedding and seeing her off to the Marines (oorah!), getting a much unexpected promotion that is daunting and exciting and completely over my head, dressing up for our final banquet, going to Haiti and traveling to new exciting places I've never been to, among so many other things. So I guess I should just start somewhere and that somewhere is my travels to Haiti and my most favorite pictures I took during that time (minus ones I did for a photoshoot because that would spoil the work I plan to do with them). Then after Haiti photographs I can organically share whatever comes to mind fro...

Thankful: My Life

Image
For the past couple weeks I have been working to the point of exhaustion. From the moment I wake up to the moment I am going to sleep I have been going full steam ahead. Cutting back my hours of sleep at night, skipping showering some days, and squeezing food in here or there to fit it all in. And still I have had to push deadlines back because I couldn't fit them into the allotted time. Perhaps not the most sustainable lifestyle, but I don't regret one minute of it, because I am doing what I love. I love creating and  I love connecting with people. I may not love doing revisions for clients who don't know what they want, and who want you to just keep creating things so they can decide what they want, but it goes along with the territory. And don't get me wrong, I cherish easy-going days and pine for them amidst busy weeks. But I feel so blessed when I think, this is what I get to do in my life. I get to design, create, meet, mentor, and pour into other's lives. ...

And we're back!

Image
I'm back from probably my favorite Haiti trip I have been on, to date. We had a smaller team which made for a more intimate trip, we went for a shorter time which caused us to really make every second count, the weather was more mild and less intense, and I didn't get sick or have diarrhea "stomach issues" at all! And those are just some of the smaller tangible things. Our voyage from the plane, according to my phone. We played games, soccer, and BINGO. We held babies, sang songs, and spent much valued time with our dear friends. We held services, distributed food and clothes. I was also able to spend a good deal of time with the ladies in the Haitian kitchen. This year there was a different boss of the kitchen, and she gave me more tasks, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was also afforded more taste tests this year. I have several stories to tell you. If you would like to hear them just let me know...but in the mean time here are some of my favorite pictures ...

Haiti Bound or Bust

Image
I know I know you are probably diasppointed because this isn't another glorious guest post. Alas you are stuck with me for now. But let's give it up for Jason! I love how he tied it into the human condition at its purest form. It got me all thinking about my dreams and what they mean for me as a person. Such vivid imagery. And really relatable. Good stuff! I contemplated never writing on here again because yet again, I cannot compete with such genius. Though I leave for Haiti today and I thought I would give you a quick update and a say farewell for a while. I am packed and ready to go, I just need to shower and throw an extra set of clothes in my carry-on! Woot woot! This trip in particular really snuck up on me. I think its because I've been going full-steam ahead since before school ended. I've had friends and family visit, made all the promotional items for next year, and worked on an array of different projects (as I previously mentioned). Just this la...

summer.

I'm back. I'm back from my blog-hiatus. I'm back from work. I'm back from Haiti. And its good to be back. Alas I can let down my hair and breathe for a second. Though I feel like I'm forgetting something. Whenever I try to rest I always think there is a reason I shouldn't be and then I get worried and paranoid and then my rest turns into something rather the opposite of said rest until I can come up with something, anything else that I should be doing. Then I work on something else until I have other bigger things to be stressed about. I can think of a list of things I can work on right now but I am choosing to allow myself this little bit of time.  Before the summer started I quit my job at the French Bistro/Cafe I was working at for irreconcilable differences (that's the correct thing to say when your paychecks were bouncing right?) . Soon after that I was approached by a few people, some I knew others I didn't who wanted design work done. I finished...

A Haitian Tale

Image
Once upon a time a Rachelle got on a plane in Kansas. Then she got on another plane and flew for hours. After landing, meeting up with her friends and spending the night in Miami she got on another plane and arrived in Port Au Prince, Haiti. When coming out of the airport Rachelle and her team of friends had to fight against heat, traffic and hustlers. Along the lengthy drive to Fond Doux, Haiti, they saw many interesting and sad things. Finally after such a long journey in a Japanese Sanrio bus they were all reunited with their Haitian family. The next couple of weeks were brimming with exciting games, services, ministry and down time. Such as: Soccer World Cup games Beach Day Special Dinners A special youth service Bingo Night They also had dance nights, movie nights, competitions, community outreaches, clothing and food handouts, and late night card games, amongst other things. One day Rachelle was able to take a bike ride with a group of friends to a church in order to set up a sp...
