Home for the Holidays

Image
It has been nice. No agenda, no car, no pressure of any sort. This lackadaisical lifestyle isn't too bad. Though I don't think I could do it forever. I like structure and having plans. I've found myself doing all sorts of things to keep busy. Churn butter, can jam, and bake scones. Snuggle with this chump. Knit a scarf. Go ice skating with the youth. I've had lunch at Lulu's. I've house/dog sat for my brother and sister-in-law. I upgraded my phone. I've visited several widows and widowers to deliver packages from my home church, which was quite the treat. I've read my book. I watched movies at home. I finished Christmas shopping and wrapping. I visited Homers and Half Priced Books. Among other things.

Christmas Time in the City

Image
I would like to start off by saying that I am in need of nothing right now. I have had a few of you ask me what I want for Christmas and honestly it was kind of difficult to come up with actual gift ideas. The best gift I could receive would actually be monthly support to my missions at UCLA or financial support towards my missions in Haiti (coming up in June). If that is not something you want to do I would also like to mention a few organizations that could use your support as well and you could donate to them instead of buying me anything and I would be just as happy. Dusty Feet Ministries ( a ministry committed to holistically rehabilitating persons affected by human trafficking in Nairobi, Kenya- run by a friend of mine), or Project Rescue ( a ministry who reaches out to women who are trafficked throughout Nepal and India), or Africa Oasis Project (an organization that digs wells throughout western Africa to bring fresh water to surrounding communities- run by a couple friends ...

Home Improvement

Image
Lately I feel like life has been transformed into the set of “Home Improvement,” well sans the “hilarious” calamities, mini mullets, and oversized plaid work shirts. It sounds like the beginning of one of those dumb blonde jokes that I have heard oh so many of. How many blondes does it take to screw in a lightbulb? How many blondes does it take to bake chocolate chip cookies? How many friends does it take to paint a guest house? The answer: a lot. Luckily I have a lot of friends. I will now take the time to thank all of my wonderful wonderful friends that helped in some fashion or form with Jessica's guest house (that I will be moving into). Shout out to: Adam, Angela, Bryan, Clint Curtis, Dave, Kimi, Jessica (of course), Joy, Mitch, and Sara. Man, I don't even think I can count all the things people have done and contributed to the cause. The house isn't finished, there is still a lot to do. New carpeting will be installed tomorrow, the kitchen floor still needs to be in...

Epic Turkey Rap

Image
I hope you all had a wonderful Turkey Day, I sure did. Though I did not spend it with family I did spend it with many many international students and close friends. (I'd tell you more about it but that is for my other blog, sorry.) Also I was skyped in and found out that I will be having a niece! Yay! Also I hope you froze your booty off waiting in lines outside of stores...not so much for the sales but for the experience. I did. Target at 4am with Jessica, Sara, Marla, Amir and Curtis. I bought DVDs. New things from these past few weeks. 1. I changed my headlight. ( I was going to do it all by myself with the aide of youtube.com and my car manual but they only had videos of Toyotas and Hondas. Which are somewhat different than my Saab. So I employed the help of Curtis to walk me through the steps.) Though I did buy the light by myself. 2. Jessica and I roasted more pumpkin seeds yesterday and I tried a new "barbecue" flavored one that doesn't taste like barbecue but ...

Sorry about that

It has been almost a month, I know I am a derelict post updater as of late and for that I am very sorry. I just feel like I don't have anything of real interest to share and in addition to that I have been intimidated by other bloggers recently. Why would I be intimidated you ask? Maybe because I am surrounded with hard core comedic genius on every side, for instance here and here , or perhaps because other people have cool drawings, designs and amazing food recipes and don't get me started on their witty jargon. That being said, I really don't have much to talk about...I mean I could talk about the last Glee sode that featured Gwenyth Paltrow but that would be the second Glee post in a row and even I recognize that as lame. I could talk about the temperature being in the 70's during the day and then dropping to 55 at night but that would be an exact replica of one of the blogs I read just with different temperatures. I could talk about books I have read lately but dec...

Conspiracy Theory

Image
Now I am not one to jump on to every conspiracy theory bandwagon. Sure Idaho may not exist because no one has really met someone from Idaho, maybe we didn't land on the moon and that footage was made up and perhaps the Lockness Monster really does inhabit that body of water in Scotland, but I am not going to go rally somewhere, create some gift shop with pamphlets and make my own website or anything. Though I do find it suspicious that Glee's last episode has yet to make it to Hulu or Fox's website. It supposedly "aired" on Tuesday but I couldn't find it (I am completely inept at finding certain tv shows, even with a guide I have to watch Glee on the internet for that exact reason. I know Bravo, Lifetime [don't judge, just for Project Runway], TLC [sometimes I watch their medical anomaly shows, ie The Half Ton Man, etc.] and Food Network). Regardless I really question whether or not it ever really was on television and therefore is not on the internet. Now...

Shaun of the Living

Sometimes I wish burkas or something equally covering were socially acceptable things to wear if you chose to wear one. Disclaimer: Let's be clear now, I am not saying I would ever ever like to live under any regime or be forced to wear one. I realize there are several political and religious implications and in no way am I wishing to dabble in any of that. Nor am I condoning the oppression of women's rights. I also understand that I do have the freedom to wear one right now if I wanted to, I just wish it would be socially acceptable amongst those close to me. I am just saying it would be helpful on days when your face is completely broken out (especially if it is freakishly broken out on one side of your face like Batman's Two Face), or on days when you don't necessarily feel "trim" or when you don't know what to wear or on days when all of the above applies (ahem... today). You could just throw it on and it would solve all of the afore mentioned proble...
