In Loving Memory

Yesterday we lost a wonderful and beautiful person, Marie-Ange, my dear friend in Haiti. She will be missed by many many people. I am thankful I had her in my life, even if just for a short time. Marie-Ange Noel 1985-2011

Today is National Coffee Day

Let me start off with a side note,it turns out that I may not be getting the bicycle I mentioned yesterday. Turns out the back rim will cost a lot more than expected. Pewp. Though I have been checking Craigslist and Chubby's Cruisers. Onto the real reason for this post. Lately I have noticed weird trends in my vernacular, some of which can be traced to specific circumstances and trends of those around me. Other trends though have come completely out of left field (which I believe is a baseball term that means "out of nowhere"). I have been known to abbrev words before, whatev... nothing new, though these new additions have been more and more prevelant. Current linguistic "trends" which I have been practicing: - I have created my own suffix "-ems" and add it to a plethora of words and sometimes even names, which doesn't change the meaning of the word whatsoever. Also it must be spoken in a nasally almost whiny voice that is almost reminiscent of a S...

My Life = Bananas

Aside from Week Zero and Week One happenings (will talk more in depth on on my other blog) I have been able to squeeze in a few other things. Like finding a wonderful bike lady who only has one bike left in her inventory since she is going on a bike-selling-sabbatical. Evidently it is teal (my fave color), is a simple fat cruiser (what I was looking for), has a basket (also what I was looking for) and should fit my height as well as my budget. Oh and she mentioned it has fur accents... I didn't really know what that meant, I thought possible cheetah print decals. Well she sent me the following photos of said lovely bike and I have been enlightened. She said the fur is easily removable. Though I like it and it adds a little "spunk," I think I will remove some of it because it might be a bit much for my taste. Like leave the bar and seat and remove all the rest or maybe remove all but the basket. Not sure just yet. In addition to campus antics and finding a bike I have also...

Ramblings... you've been warned

I feel really shallow when I think this, but sometimes I wish I could just start over with my wardrobe. Just clear everything out (with the exception of a few items... namely keep things that others have bought me) and have all the money restored to me of what I had spent on said wardrobe and then I could start over. The sad part is, my taste in personal fashion has not changed at all and I would most likely spend the money on comparable items. I wasn't planning on telling you this, but it just occurred to me as I was scanning through facebook pictures of myself and realized I am not a fan of a lot of my clothes. Instead I was going to talk about something entirely different and was going to share pictures of my terrarium, my new curtains and my visit with my mom and sister but evidently I can't seem to find my camera cord anywhere which means I have no pictures to share and am slightly in a panic. Where do you get new cord like that? I am assuming Best Buy or Radio Shack. I...

The process of cooking in a Haitian kitchen

For those of you who do not know, and those who are not detail oriented and didn't read my last post, I am back in the States. What have I been up to you may ask? Many many things, activities including but not limited to: working at the Coffee Bean, working on web designs, eating, sleeping, not sleeping due to neighbor's dog's incessant barking, 4th of Julying, getting caught up on newsletters and making last minute preparations for Jori's wedding and my Kansas visit. This last trip to Haiti was fantastic and I will probably go more in depth on it on my other blog but I would like to share some highlights. Since this past trip was my fourth time going to Haiti, I feel I was more comfortable to contribute in ways I hadn't previously. I kept finding myself in the Haitian kitchen (we have both a Haitian kitchen and a "western" kitchen at Royal Palm Children's Home) trying to help in whatever way I could. I think they thought I was an imbecile because I d...
