Tour de KC

Image
I really did try to do a post yesterday, though I stayed the night over at my gma and gpa Hamilton's house and they couldn't remember the wifi password. So here is my synopsis for yesterday: I went to several places promoting my business my sister-in-law and I are starting up, I toured my brother's workplace which has insanely huge printers so that I could look at materials for my photography, I later met up with my cousin Klinton and then we met up with our friends from LA who were driving through KC and ate dinner at Lulu's Thai Noodles. So as I just mentioned my friend, Niloo and her friend, David were driving through Kansas on their way to New York. They called me up the other day to see if I were in town and wanted to meet up for a bit. So we met up ate dinner, stayed at my gparent's home overnight and had a big breakfast this morning. Then began the Tour de KC. I wasn't able to show them the all  of my favorite places because of time restraints but here...

Summer Reading

Image
I have fallen behind this year in my reading. I feel that I have been side swiped and don't know where all my time has gone. So I had hopes this summer to get some solid reading in. Normally I read a book cover to cover before I start on a new one but I have had to start reading a couple books before the previous ones are finished because of a time frame set on them for a group project thing. Anyways I am 3/4 of the way through Dune, about half way through Intercessor and only a few chapters into this financial makeover book. I'm really excited about the financial makeover book, don't worry I'm not in financial ruins or anything but I think it will be a good book to read to get my financial booty kicked into gear so I can work on getting a retirement plan started, pay off the last bits of student loans and make financially smart choices now early on in life. Then there is the Geoffrey Canada book I have had my eye on ever since I heard him speak on NPR, Fist Stick ...

Oh Shoot!

Today I exercised my right to bear arms...well at least to operate some guns. Natalie's boyfriend has an artillery of guns and teaches gun safety. So I asked if I could go shooting with them sometime before I go back to CA. Today was my lucky day. Natalie had the awesome idea of making our own custom targets. The naked butt was my target, the devil face was my momma's target, the Dr. Who roboty thing was Natalie's target and the vegan zombie was Clay's target. The gun I'm holding wasn't loaded,  I was getting my picture taken while Clay filled the magazine.  I wish I had a cigar in this picture, and that I wasn't holding it so awkwardly. Who is kidding who here, I'm the least hardcore person there is. But I must say, once I was taught how to aim, I didn't do so shabby  (still not sure if I like that word). We tried this MRE (Made, Ready-to-Eat) Chicken Fajita dinner...it wasn't that bad. It had seasoned chicken, rice, tor...

I think I was six years old the last time I went to John's Space Age Donut Shop. My Gpa Marrineau used to take me there when I was little and we would listen to jazz music the whole way there. This morning Autumn treated me to the sprinkled delicacy that you see above. I love birthweeks. (I actually went to the gym immediately after eating my donut, so I don't feel guilty at all.) This afternoon Gma and I went on our traditional Andre's visit. She got the seafood risotto, with the beets, carrot side salad and capped it off with the Napolean. Everyday Andre's offers two specials in addition to their quiche lorraine. I can't help my "creature of habit" tendencies. At least I tried a new dessert... instead of the rum cake, I had this coco, espresso, white cake and marzipan deliciousness. Gma and I also went birthweek shopping, this is the jacket and shoes she bought me today. After taking the pictures of my jacket and shoes, Autumn wante...

Outlook Creative

I failed you...again. I have tried to post on here every day for at least the month of August (except for the 1st because that was a travel day). Though alas life caught up with me.  For a large majority of yesterday and today, my sister-in-law and I have been promoting our new signage and design solutions company, Outlook Creative LLC at an Early-Education-Conference. If you are interested in any design and/or signage solutions, you can contact me and I can give you some quotes! Though I have worked in coffee on and off for the past couple of years I never really tried an iced coffee before. That was until I came to 110 degree Kansas. Morning ice coffee waiting for the conference to begin. Decided to make our own ice coffee today. PS Nevermind the crazy eyes in this picture. The women to men ratio at this conference is dramatically skewed. To every man there are about 500 women. Also I was unaware that capri pants were so popular amongst middle-age...

A Day Behind

Image
The events I am about to tell you about happened yesterday. I tried out a new coffeehouse yesterday with Priscilla and Autumn...they have the choice of a chemex, pour-overs and wonderful espresso. It has a great ambiance and I will most definitely check it out again. PS. It is evidently pronounced as que instead of what it looks like, it is not like the Brothers Quay . Yesterday I celebrated my birthday at my Gma and Gpa Hamilton's house.  Gma made carrot cake. Following dinner I took a walk in the garden. My Gpa is known for his extensive gardening and trails so the neighbors made this sign and posted it in front of one of his trails that goes deep in the woods. Sadly the horrible drought and extreme heat that hit the Midwest wiped out all of his hard work. Not one flower survived, the creek is dried up and all that is left are the trees and his little hidden rest points.  He has a couple little tables and benches in little hidden pockets of ...

Birthday Rollover

Listen boys and girls, when you turn 26 you too can eat your ombre cake and Neapolitan ice cream for breakfast. Until then you will just have to enjoy your dry crusty cereal and milk. Its kind of a rite of passage or something...don't blame me, I don't make the rules. I had my mom make it based off of this  cake  only with my favorite color. (The frosting also had an ombre) I ate it by color.  Autumn bought me the rose for my birthday. Handmade card from Hannah, Hammerpress card and journal from Priscilla.
