My Life:Packed Up

Image
I have come to the conclusion that I must be some sort of a genie or maybe a magician. What other explanation is there to my clown-car house? Though I have been packing for what seems like forever more things continue to turn up. Its like a never ceasing stream of objects. One would think I should be on the show, "Hoarding Alive." Needless to say I am elbows deep in boxes, bags and Goodwill piles. I had hopes that I would move in last week, though as it turns out the bathroom wasn't finished being renovated, so alas I must wait. In addition to move-in limbo I have been preparing for a new school year and all the first week activities. I have been working on a 9 foot entrance to a carnival which will also act as a photo-op area. My biz, Outlook Creative has also picked up speed and I have been working on more info graphics, wedding invites, and banners just to mention a few. I refurbished a chair for the first time ever (which I will share later, when I have a good '...

I'm sorry, truly

Hello, My name is Derelict Blogger. I have neglected you, and you don't deserve such treatment. And I would like to ask for your forgiveness. More for your sake than anything else, because I hear that harboring unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. And you really don't want that just because I have been horrible. So what you should do instead is go eat something sweet, relax, breathe in and out and maybe listen to your jamz. (Yes, jamz with a 'z'. ) I wouldn't abandon you if it wasn't really really important. Let me tell you, life is important and that is what has been happening here folks. I've been helping the Farrums move into her new place, having meetings, making info graphics, going to ArtWalks and visiting apartments e'rywhere. Today I received news that Frances and I were approved to move into a new apartment and we are extremely excited! So today has been spent boxing up and organizing my things. I mig...

Unpacking

Image
Since my SD card reader went MIA and I was spending my last days in Kansas visiting family and friends, I fell way behind on my posting. So sorry, my faithful readers. I flew back to LA yesterday and have almost completely unpacked, that includes unpacking the photos from my cameras. Yes, I just said cameras...with an 's'. I am now the proud owner of a Nikon D3100. The most exciting aspect of my new camera, is its video capabilities. Here are some unpacked photos from my Pentax... The Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibition at Nelson Atkins Museum of Art: Pooch Plunge at Youngs Pool, that Autty worked at: It was too cute, Hank would try and bring back every tennis ball he swam by. Autty told me her main job was to keep the humans out of the water because there was no chlorine in the pool, and she had to keep her eye out for a chubby white English bulldog who didn't know how to swim.  In lieu of missing out on SantaCaliGon Da...

Getting Crafty: Wallets & Bags

Image
So I bought an SD card reader a few weeks ago so I could load photos on my computer from my camera. Though after loading all the senior and engagement photos the SD reader has come up missing in the Bermuda Triangle known as our house. I was willing to pay a whole dollar  to whoever found it though after an hour we called off the search party in defeat. So when I find it I will post my photos I took at the Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibit at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art (that is if I still feel like it is relevant enough to post them). In lieu of the Kahlo/Rivera pictures I have decided to post about my clumsy learnings in sewing and leathersmithing (is that a word?). I've taken advantage of my time with my family and had my mom teach me how to put in a zipper and how to change the needle on my sewing machine. Back in November of last year my friends and I tracked down leather couches being given away on Craigslist so we could skin them and reuse the leather. We ...

Photo Time!

Image
I've been a busy bee these past few weeks. I have been able to spread things out a bit though due to the rain on Thursday I had to move my little sister's senior photo shoot to Saturday which just so happened to be the same day as the engagement photo shoot I had scheduled. I now have several edited and I am sharing some of my faves with you. Autty's Senior Photos Julia & John's Engagement Photos Until later... xoxo r

Building a Giveaway Box

STEP 1: Pick out a postcard while you are at Hammerpress during the Crossroad's Art District First Friday. Priscilla made sure I got my postcard selection recorded by being my paparazzi.  We have a winner! STEP 2: Create a leather envelope to be used as a wallet (pictures on this later). STEP 3: Make caramel candies and wrap them in parchment paper. (Note: caramels are very sticky and will fuse to the wax paper -___-)  STEP 4: Make a reusable drawstring canvas bag to hold caramels. STEP 5: Find a reusable box to ship it in from Blackwell Thrift Store. Oh you know, just a hallway of mirrors that leads to nowhere. I prefer the center box but the postcard doesn't fit.  I liked the pop of color and the metal clasp of the first one, so that is the one I went with. STEP 6: Package it all up and send it to the Steven, the ...
